Why every page exists
Before we publish a page, we ask two questions: why does this page exist, and what does it tell a traveller that other pages don't? If we can't answer both, we don't publish it. We'd rather have fewer, better pages than a large number of thin ones.
We don't create near-duplicate pages aimed at slightly different search phrases. If two ideas would answer the same question, we merge them into one page.
Research and sources
- Primary sources first. For entry rules, visas and other legal requirements, we link to official government sources and never summarise beyond what they say.
- Opening hours and prices are checked against official websites where they exist and recent, reliable listings where they don't. We publish the month we last checked them.
- Venues — restaurants, bars and markets — are the information most likely to go out of date. We name individual venues only when we've confirmed they're operating, and we prefer to recommend areas and dishes that stay reliable even when individual places change.
- We don't invent experiences. Our writing doesn't claim personal visits, meals or stays that didn't happen. When we give an opinion, we label it as ours ("Our take").
Recommendations
Recommendations are made on editorial grounds: usefulness, quality, value and fit for a particular kind of traveller. We say who something suits and who should skip it. We never publish ratings without a named source, and we never write or publish fake reviews.
Commercial relationships
Affiliate links never influence what we recommend, where it appears or how it's described. Pages carry editorial booking advice whether or not there is an affiliate partner for that category. See our affiliate disclosure.
Images
We use only images we have the right to use — our own photography or images from sources such as Wikimedia Commons, Unsplash, Pexels and Pixabay under their licences. We credit the author and licence wherever an image appears. We never use images taken from search engines, stock agencies without a licence, hotel or tour-operator websites, or other travel publications.
Updates and corrections
Every guide shows the date it was last updated. We review high-traffic and time-sensitive pages regularly, and immediately when we're told something has changed. When we correct a significant factual error, we update the page date. To report an error, see contact.
Use of automation
We may use software tools to help with research, drafting and checking. Every page is reviewed for accuracy, and facts that can change are checked against sources before publication. Tools don't decide what we recommend.
